Talking Blog Goals, Books, & More (Novel Newcomers: Aki @ The Bibliophile District)

In case you’re wondering, being on hiatus is torture. But here we are with another Novel Newcomers post, which is late kinda by a few hours. Anyhoo I hope you’re ready to get to know another new book blogger!

You can find all of Aki’s links at the end of the post, so grab a cuppa, get comfy as we learn a bit more about Aki!

What’s Novel Newcomers?

The idea of debut authors being featured across the blogosphere, but with book bloggers instead. But there were so many features already focusing on debut authors at the time, why not focus on newer bloggers in the bookish community as well?

In 2016, Nori from ReadWriteLove28 and Sophia from Bookwyrming Thoughts joined forces to feature some of the newest additions in the book blogging world. In 2017, Sophia started it… but dropped off the face of the planet due to other commitments and put the feature on a hiatus for 2018.

Now Novel Newcomers is back for 2019! With me, Clo, as Soph’s co-host. Are you ready for this years fun, as we shine a light on newbie book bloggers who started in either 2017 OR 2018?

Outside of blogging and reading, what other interests do you have?

Besides reading and blogging, I enjoy doing calligraphy and painting. I’m not the very best at painting, though (sadly!). Anything artsy to be honest!

Other than that, I like to edit graphics, too. Like book covers (but vvvv basic one), banners and the likes. It’s something I’ve been doing since then but stopped 1-2 years ago for no reason… well, laziness. /laughs/

What is your most unusual accomplishment?(doesn’t have to be blogging)

Unusual accomplishment… This got me thinking. But I think it’s when I went to a mall with only my friend and we took a train to get there. The mall is pretty far and it wad our first time there so I’m kinda feeling scared. It’s already an accomplishment for someone like me who is afraid of commuting alone and going to a total unfamiliar place. Makes me feel unease and anxious.

What is your favourite food?

The million dollar question! First, how can you actually pick one favorite food among all the existing delicious foods in the world??? This would be much more easier with the foods I hate eating.

So after all the inside debate, I’ll go with my lovey-dovey pancakes! And I never said no when it comes to pancake in my whole life so that’s that. (I wrote this while looking at the box of pancake on top of the rice box… yum~)

After snooping on your blog, and noticed you’re taking part in #YARC, share 3 of your favourite reads for this challenge so far.

I have only read 3 books for the challenge so technically they will be all a favorite. But even if I read more than 3, I think I’ll still choose them as my most favorite as of the moment.

  • The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi — if you’re looking for some historical fiction full of mind blowing puzzles then pick this one up. One of the characters is also a Filipino just like me.
  • Descendant of the Crane by Joan He — I know you probably heard this book in twitterverse already with all those hype and I swear it doesn’t disappoint! Full of mystery to the point you’ll even suspect your own self!

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang — recently finished! It’s one of the best contemporary romance I’ve ever read. Protect both Khai and My please!!

What do you wish people who don’t blog, knew about blogging?

I’m nowhere near a blogging expert but as someone with a bit of experience, it is how it is so so hard to maintain one. There is a lot more to it than meets the eye.

If you could go on a holiday anywhere with 4 fictional characters, who’d you go with and why them?

Let’s not go too far. One of my recent reads is The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson and I immensely enjoyed the friendship in the story. Let me go to a holiday vacation with Bri, Toby, Palmer and Andie please! I just think they’re really fun to be with and there might be a chance we’ll do the fun scavenger hunt, too.

One thing you hope to accomplish this year within your blogging journey? (e.g follower number/posting more etc)

This year, one of my new year’s resolution is to post consistently on my blog and I’m hundred percent failing now. I never follow my posting schedule so hopefully I’ll be able to fix that before the year ends. Also… I know follower count is just a number but isn’t thrilling to see that little thing? I recently surpassed the 200 followers count and I’m hoping to surpass another milestone (is 500 too much to ask??) before 2020 starts!

  2. Wonderful interview! I love Aki so much! I’m honestly terrified to travel anywhere alone as well, so taking a train with only one other friend sounds like an awesome accomplishment! 😉 Pancakes are amazing, and you’ve reminded me again how I need to read the Gilded Wolves and Descendant of the Crane soon! Haha.
