Out Of My Comfort Zone Tag

*twirls about as she dusts off another tag to do* I’m going to conquer this tag mountain ok, I will do thissss. Let’s roll on out of our comfort zone with this tag, as I have to eliminate a genre and then for my answers none of the books can be from that genre. *looks about nervously*

Thank you Jamsu @ jamsudreams and Sam @ Fictionally Sam for both tagging me in this, wheeeee you should all check out their blogs too after this post 😉

Rules

  • You have to pick ONE GENRE that you frequently read about… and then, you can’t use ANY books from that genre while answering the questions!

So I’m actually discarding a sub genre ahem…since I read a lot of this sub genre. Urban Fantasy bye bye. We’re also chucking Paranormal out too since those genres over lap a lot.

A Book That Is An Exception When It Comes To Genres Or Elements You Don’t Typically Like

Erm…The Vamps and Little Mix’s autobiographies as well as The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire by Dan and Phil. I’m not a huge fine of autobiography type books, however if it’s about a band and it’s written by the band then I’m down for that. I find hearing about their story, how they got to where they are super interesting. As well seeing photos you’d not see otherwise. TABINOF was also quirky and something ordinarily I’d not pick up, mostly due to it’s layout being a mix up of words, drawings, photos etc.

A Book You Enjoyed From A Genre You Previously Held Some Stigma Against

Doing It! by Hannah Witton – non fic and written by a YouTuber who talks openly about sex, health (both sexual and mental) and much more this was one of the few books I’ve enjoyed which falls into the non fic category.

A Book You Didn’t Know Was Out Of Your Comfort Zone Until You Started Reading It

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amy Kaufman. I was NOT expecting the layout to be well what it was. I appreciated it but it was a bit of oh damn what am I reading right now? moment. As I’m used to your standard layout of just words.

Pick A Friend Who Motivates You To Pick Up Books You Might Not Normally Be Interested In – Is There A Book They Convinced You To Give A Try?

My irl bestie, we’ve been best mates for over a decade now, and we’re both readers. However whilst we overlap in many genres, she does like thrillers/crime/mysteries whereas I prefer to consume that genre on TV. She did get me to try We Were Liars by E Lockhart though, and it was good but also really not my cuppa tea.

A Book That Is Out of Your Comfort Zone, But You Would Like to Read

Romance. Like shove all the adult romance books in here as they’re all sorta out of my zone but I’m also super curious…the covers kind of put me off though. I don’t want a shirtless dude staring at me on a cover thank you.

A Book/Genre So Outside Of Your Comfort Zone That You’ll Probably Never Give It A Chance

I mean I used to say I’d never read Sci-Fi or Non-Fiction now look at me, I’ve read both so I mean I’m not saying never. BUT historical fiction. I’d probably fall asleep after the first page to be honest, historical fiction just has never appealed to me unless it’s paired up with fantasy/paranormal things *shrugs*

  1. I am laughing so hard because a main reason I automatically “snub” romance books in my mind is because of the shirtless dudes on the covers hahaah. Well that and my internalized misogyny. I should really give the genre more of a chance to be honest! There’s the Oceanswept trilogy by Lara Hays that is like a prim and proper British girl lost at sea that finds herself on a pirate ship and falling in love. With some swashbuckling adventure.

  2. I relate so much to the “want-to-try-romance-but-eh-shirtless-dude-is-making-me-feel-uncomfortable” feeling. I might just read these romance books in ebook form, so I can avoid that issue lol.

I honestly NEVER thought I would like historical fiction, but I’ve read a few books from this genre over the past year and apparently, some of it’s pretty decent! I just try not to think about the countless other ones that HAVE put me to sleep. 😂

  3. I love this idea omg, totally relate on TABINOF, I’m pretty sure that, the Zayn Malik book and the 5sos ones are the only autobiography style books I’ve read (can you tell I’m an intellect). I heard so many good things about Illuminae and then I got it and the layout was so mad it made me feel sick lol I may have to give it another go, great post ❤

But yassss I remember first opening Illuminae and the whole layout made me go O.o cause it was so weird and yet it really lended itself to the story imo.

  4. […] Hello there allies, archenemies, and everyone in between! It’s time for another tag again and, I really find this quite refreshing especially when my reading has been on a standstill (temporarily). Doing book tags is also a fun and guilt-free way to put on some content when you just can’t find the inspiration to write something creative HAHAHA. I’ve seen this book tag from Clo @ Bookdragons!
