Tidyathon Info (Part of Bookend Events)

Tidying is rarely something we’re excited to do, whether it’s our rooms, work space, our blogs, goodreads…Back in 2018 I came up with an idea, instead of doing all the tidying by myself, wouldn’t it be more fun to do it with others? Thus the Tidyathon was born and I brought it up to Sam, about us including this in Bookend Events. As you can see, she liked the idea. So here we go, what is the Tidyathon? Why should you take part? And what do you get out of it?

What Is It?

  • Running alongside a Bookend Event, the Tidyathon is a month long event
  • You set aside time (daily, weekly, all in a day, weekends etc) to get some tidying done
  • The amount of time you spend on this is entirely up to you
  • Originally you could only tidy up your blog/goodreads now it’s open! If you need to tidy part of your room, that counts too!

How Do I Join?

  • Fill out the relevant Bookend Event form (for whichever event is running or upcoming)
  • When you reach this question What Are You Probably Going To Do? select ONE of these options: Tidyathon OR Blog Posts & Tidyathon

What’s An Add On?

  • You have the main event, which will be one of the following: Bookending Spring, Bookending Summer, Bookending Autumn, Bookending Winter
  • The main event is this: write a minimum 3 blog posts and post them (more information on Bookend Events)
  • Add ons are extras to the main event: ranging from a Tidyathon to any Readathons which end up overlapping with the event month
  • The add ons are either universal or seasonal

Seasonal Add Ons

  • Extras to main event (main event refers to the Bookend Events)
  • Add ons count as taking part in the main event, if that’s all you want to do
  • Exclusive to ONE (1) particular event

For example, there may be a readathon which happens in the same month as the Bookending Summer 2019 event, that’s a seasonal add on. As it’s only happening on that month with that event.

Universal Add Ons

  • Extras to main event (main event refers to the Bookend Events)
  • Add ons count as taking part in the main event, if that’s all you want to do
  • Part of ALL FOUR (4) events

For example the Tidyathon, is something which will happen alongside each Bookend Event, making it universal. So it doesn’t matter if you join in on the Summer or the Winter events; the Tidyathon will run on all events.

Tidyathon Content

Whilst you can totally tidy up your kitchen and it count, I figured I’d help you all out with things you can tidy, relating to your blog and goodreads. By no means do you need to do ALL of this below, it’s up to you to create a list that you feel you can accomplish. Whether you choose to focus on your blog, your goodreads or something else. The Tidyathon isn’t here to stress you out, its here to help you get your tidying done, with others who are also tidying.

Blog

  • Format Old Posts
  • Edit Old Links
  • Update Graphics
  • Create New Graphics
  • Declutter Sidebar
  • Write Blog Posts (ones you’ve been procrastinating)
  • Update/Create Pages
  • Sort Out Navigation Menu (that’s the bar holding your pages: About Me etc)
  • Check Social Media Links Are Working
  • Copy Across Reviews To GR
  • Copy Across Reviews To <insert site here>

Goodreads

  • Shelf Sorting (add, delete, organise your shelves)
  • Multiple Editions
  • Right Format
  • Copy Across Reviews To GR
  • Cull TBR
  • Update Reading Challenge

Important Note: Whilst these lists are both really long, it’s done to give you ideas. Your own lists should be something manageable, e.g formatting 20 posts in the month if that’s something you feel you can do.

That’s everything you need to know about the Tidyathon! I’d suggest you come back and check each event, to make sure  nothing has changed or been added. As with Bookend Events, the Tidyathon will continually be evolving!

You Could…

  • Post a list of what you’re hoping to achieve in the Tidyathon to your blog or on twitter!
  • Make sure you use the #tidyathon AND #BEsummer19 hashtags when sharing on twitter, so both Sam and I can find you!
  • If you decide to do a blog post, you MUST link back to this post.

  1. WEEEEEEE Maybe I’ll get all my reformatting (reviews wise because who cares about some of the old posts where the formatting got so fucked up) done this winter. I’ll consider that an accomplishment. Plus my Goodreads TBR pile is slowly dwindling down to um well… not exactly manageable, but acceptable I suppose.

We all know I’m lying and it’ll grow to 2K again by this point next year.

  2. Oohh, this sounds like such a great way to prepare for the coming of the next year. I think I will low key join in actually, because I have SO many reviews I need to write up and so many photos to edit but most of all so many comments to reply back to and blogs to hop DD: So maybe I’ll do a week for each – one for writing reviews, one for commenting back and hopping and one for photo editing. And maybe video editing too because, booktube 😉 Yup! Sorry for thinking aloud into your comment box xD

  3. […] just writing holiday/New Year’s themed posts for December. I hope to do at least 12 posts. Tidyathon is hosted by Book Dragons to encourage bloggers to tidy up their blogs and Goodreads. I’m not […]

  4. […] I’m starting with both my TBR and maybe-read shelves: just 5 from each, 10 total, so this post doesn’t get too long. In future editions I may focus on one shelf or the other, or even do 10 from each, who knows. Also, this is meant to be a weekly meme but I probably won’t do it more than a couple of times a month, unless I decide to really focus on decluttering my shelves. […]
