All the Nopes ~ Book Tag

I found this book tag on Read By Tiffany so you should totally check Tiffany’s answers to this tag AFTER reading mine. *smiles*

NOPE ENDING: A BOOK ENDING THAT MADE YOU GO NOPE EITHER IN DENIAL, RAGE, OR SIMPLY BECAUSE THE ENDING WAS CRAPPY

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. At first I was fine with the ending then…well I personally felt like it was a cop out. If you’ve read it you may understand where I’m coming from.

NOPE PROTAGONIST: A MAIN CHARACTER YOU DISLIKE AND DRIVES YOU CRAZY

Bella from Twilight. I’m sorry but seriously, she’s one of the worst female characters I’ve ever come across. Right up there with Elena from The Vampire Diaries which were books first. The TV series is based on them loosely. Both of them do my head in. Whiny, selfish, thinks the world revolves around them and lifes so hard deciding between two guys! Like just pick one and give me the other!

NOPE PAIRING: A “SHIP” YOU DON’T SUPPORT

Funny story. I wasn’t on board with the Rose and Dimitri ship till the last book in TVA. I just…nope really. I was rooting for Mase but well *cries*

NOPE PLOT TWIST: A TWIST YOU DIDN’T SEE COMING AND DIDN’T LIKE LIKED

Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas. That ending was perhaps one of the most traumatic endings I’ve read ever. The emotions that ran through me, I still remember finishing it in my lounge and I got up and saying ‘Nope’ over and over again. Still not happy now (still need to reread the whole series and then get to Tower of Dawn ooops)

NOPE GENRE: A GENRE YOU WILL NEVER READ

Historical Fiction? I mean I won’t say never but it’s pretty unlikely it just doesn’t appeal to me really.

NOPE BOOK FORMAT: BOOK FORMATTING YOU HATE AND AVOID BUYING UNTIL IT COMES OUT IN A DIFFERENT EDITION

Hardback.

Look stop giving that super disappointed look ok, I’m a paperback girl. Not really all that for eBooks nor Audio. Hardbacks I can’t STAND the dust jackets. They’re pretty but so impractical! I mean I have to take them off the 2 books I own which are hardbacks with dust jackets, because I don’t want to ruin the jacket. Then you have to make sure not to squish said jacket.

Do you see the problem? Plus paperbacks are cheaper for me, stack and rack nicely fit in bags and are nicely. BAGS that reminds me of something I needed to go do *runs off to another side of the net*

NOPE TROPE: A TROPE THAT MAKES YOU GO NOPE

Aside from insta love. The one where the female character needs saving. Yeah that one aka damsel in distress trope.  Instead of the boy saving us from a dragon that’s about to eat us (we can just chat with it you know make friends) or protecting us from the bag guys – we know how to kick and punch it’s not rocket science! Maybe you could save us from our periods. You know if you could do that I would be impressed…I think we all would. Show me that and I’ll be happy.

Boy saves girl. How? HE CURES HER CRAMPS AND SPEEDS HER PERIOD CYCLE SO IT LASTS 24 HRS INSTEAD OF A WEEK! (seriously tell me girls, would you not be on board for this sort of saving *winks*)

NOPE RECOMMENDATION: A BOOK RECOMMENDATION THAT IS CONSTANTLY PUSHED AT YOU, THAT YOU SIMPLY REFUSE TO READ

I mean its not pushed at me. It’s just sat there laughing and I refuse to read it because I’m simply not interested. Harry Potter. I know, I know calm yourselves it’s ok. I’m a Slytherin here, and proud too. But I have no intentions anytime soon of reading Harry Potter.

NOPE CLICHE: A CLICHE OR WRITING PET PEEVE THAT ALWAYS MAKES YOU ROLL YOUR EYES

I think I’m gonna agree with Tiffany on this one. Girl on girl hating actually irks me no lie. It happens all around us, thanks to society, thanks to social media and films, music videos, reality TV and everything we consume at some points is telling girls that we’re not good enough. And then we see other girls who in our eyes are prettier, hotter, smarter or whatever and we feel this jealousy that turns to hate. We don’t need to bring each other down, if we build each other up, we’d be so much stronger.

NOPE LOVE INTEREST: THE LOVE INTEREST THAT’S NOT WORTHY OF BEING ONE

Tamlin. Can I just leave it at that? If you’ve only read ACOTAR read ACOMAF if you’ve not read either…go read them. Prepare to have your heart torn apart.

NOPE BOOK: A BOOK THAT SHOULDN’T HAVE EXISTED

Even the ones I didn’t finish, gave low ratings too. They exist for reasons, the author had a story to tell. Perhaps the book wasn’t for me, or perhaps the story wasn’t polished enough. I think everything we read, whether we hate it, dislike it, like it, love it or DNF it. It all shapes us, we may not realise it. So for that reason none of them, they’ll still shape someone else and mean something to another.

NOPE VILLAIN: A VILLAIN YOU WOULD HATE TO CROSS

All of them? What am I going to do? Whack them with my Oxford English Dictionary (which is hardback, I can cope with hardback reference books) and hope it’s heavy enough to knock them out? Oooo I know I’ll stare at them and start fangirling. They’ll probably run away to be honest haha.

NOPE DEATH: A CHARACTER DEATH THAT STILL HAUNTS YOU

I’m just going to link in my post I did this week about Character Deaths I’m Still Not Over. That should answer this better haha.

NOPE AUTHOR: AN AUTHOR A SERIES YOU HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE READING FOR AND HAVE DECIDED TO QUIT

John Green. I just…don’t get along with his books really. Looking For Alaska was alright, as was The Fault in Our Stars. But when I read Paper Towns …BAM I couldn’t deal with his books anymore.

  1. Paperbacks are definitely preferable when I’m trying to stay on a budget! And depending on the size of the book they’re much easier to read than a hardback 🙂 But if it’s a book that I know I want to keep and re-read and display on myself, then I’m going to want an HC. I would say half or more of my books are hardback now? Since I usually frequent a local used bookstore, though, I don’t always have a choice and that’s okay with me 🙂

  2. I totally, TOTALLY agree about Everything,Everything. I admit I didn’t see it coming, but probably because it made absolutely zero sense. A total cop-out. How else could she justify all the stupid decisions she made!? Ugh.

I was traumatised by Empire of Storms too. It was really clever and it just threw me completely. I haven’t read Tower of Dawn yet because, to be honest, I’m not interested. I want her to get a move on with the proper plot, I don’t care what Chaol was doing! :p

    • Ah I totally agree – like suddenly none of it was real anyway?! Like no, it made zero sense and I wasn’t down for that xD

Aaah I haven’t read Tower of Dawn but my mum binge read the whole series and said that you need to read of Tower of Dawn before as it’s not just about Chaol it also follows other characters who will no doubt come into the finale. So yeah xD but yassss the ending to EoS hurt me so much

    • Always ruining my heart! And yeah, I just wasn’t on that ship till the end. I was still holding out for Mase and then well…you know what happened and my poor heart was broken xD
