‘Inside & Out’ ~ Book Tag

Hello my lovelies, it’s that time again for another book tag! I found this tag over HERE on wattpad. The first letter of each question spells out the title, excluding the & though. Let’s dive into this then and see what I’ll be answering.

Inside flap/back of the book summaries: Too much info or not enough? (Discuss)

So I feel like is depends really on how someone’s worded the summary. Sometimes a whole long paragraph doesn’t work, it makes you switch off because you don’t want to know EVERYTHING from reading the summary. I think there’s a balance to getting it right, equally having a few sentences doesn’t always work.

A summary really should be telling us a brief bit about the story, the world and a bit about what is going to happen like one of the main plot arcs.

New Book: What form do you want it in? Be honest,                          Audiobooks, eBook, Paperback                       or Hardback?

I’ve never listened to Audiobooks mainly because I’m terrified it’ll totally ruin the reading experience for me. eBooks…I mean I do read online sometimes but its usually wattpad or in PDF form and if it’s the latter it takes me forever. If it’s wattpad not so much. Hardbacks and I have a love hate relationship. I hate dust jackets with a passion, what is the point to having a dust jacket when it’s going to get creased and damaged?! Also I couldn’t cope with reading multiple books at once if they were all hardbacks, I’d have dust jackets everywhere so I didn’t crease them whilst I read and then they’d crease elsewhere. *sighs*

Paperbacks…honestly I love and hate them too. I hate them because they too crease easily on the spines but I love them because they’re cheap and still look pretty. So paperbacks all the way.

Scribble while you read? Do you like to write in your
books, take notes, make comments, or do you keep your books clean, clean, clean? (tell us why?)

…ok here’s the thing I get why some people do it. I do get that, but for me personally if I were to ever do that, I’d buy another copy of the book to mark. Because I couldn’t cope otherwise.

In your best voice, read us your favourite 1st sentence from a book

Right well in my case it’d be font and well we don’t exactly get to use different fonts so erm here have it in colours.

‘The demon exploded in a shower of ichor and guts.’

Yep, good ol’ Clockwork Angel that is.

Does it matter to you whether the author is male or
female when you’re deciding on a book? What if you’re unsure of the author’s gender?

Now before doing all these tags I never really noticed what gender the author was, I mean I do know that I read a lot more books by female authors. But that primarily because of the genres I gravitate towards you find few male authors writing paranormal YA or Adult fiction, at least that’s what I’ve found. They tend to be around the sci-fi, dystopian and fantasy area the male authors.

Now that’s not to say I have anything against male authors haha, the gender the writer is, is the last thing on my mind when looking for a book. The cover, title and summary all take my main attention and focus. The author, could be a dog for all I cared. Women and men both write well, sure you can notice certain patterns within the Adult umbrella of genres where they the two genders tend to sit.

Ever read ahead? Have you ever read the last page way before you got there? (Do confess thy sins, foul demon!)

*looks guilty* A Clockwork Princess I read the back page, when I was about 100 pages into the book. It made no sense so I went and read the whole Epilogue. I was balling and then proceeded to shove it on my shelf for a year, as I didn’t want to have to read that end. So yes, I do read ahead and I mean I don’t always mind spoilers.

Organised bookshelves or outrageous bookshelves?

Ok well I can’t cope with messy bookshelves, the only thing that gets tidied willingly and often are my bookshelves as I’m having to re-stack them as I’m out of room. I have two boxes with books in, two of my shelves are double stacked (depth wise) and I’m still out of room. I do love organising my shelves though, it’s relaxing.

Under oath: Have you ever bought a book based on the cover alone?

Yes. Anything that shines I will gravitate towards and want it, I’m a magpie really. I just love shiny things, and shiny covers or spines make me want them even more. It is a combination of the summary as well as the cover though.

Take it outside to read, or stay in?

I mean I can read inside or outside but I prefer to read inside, as I can see the book better and the sunlight isn’t blinding me.
